Tragedy Strikes Twice on Ocmulgee River: Teen Drowns at Amerson River Park

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) – Bibb County authorities are investigating a second tragic drowning within 24 hours on the Ocmulgee River in Macon.

According to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a witness reported seeing Chester struggling in the water after attempting to jump into the river from a rope swing.

When Chester went under for the second time, his friend dove in to help but lost sight of him.

Unable to locate Chester, the witness alerted the Macon-Bibb Fire Department, which promptly dispatched its Dive Team to the scene.

After a thorough search, the dive team successfully recovered Chester’s body from the river.

This incident marks the second drowning on the Ocmulgee River within a day, raising concerns about safety in the area.
