DEL MAR, Calif. — The kickoff to summer turned chaotic for visitors heading to the San Diego County Fair on the Juneteenth federal holiday, as traffic snarls and overcrowding led to significant delays.
Attendees reported enduring three to four-hour journeys just to reach the fairgrounds, prompting organizers to halt ticket sales and issue parking alerts. As per to the source cbs8
The situation became so dire that even shuttle services, meant to alleviate congestion, faced extensive delays.
A viewer shared video footage of a two-mile shuttle trip from Horsepark taking over an hour, while others from Canyon Crest Academy described waiting up to 90 minutes just to board shuttles.
Fair spokesperson Tristan Hallman acknowledged the unprecedented influx, noting that Wednesday, typically a slower day, saw a surge in attendance due to the holiday.
To manage future visits, Hallman recommended using the Fair Tripper ticket, which includes fair admission and a train ride on local services like the Coaster, Sprinter, or MTS trolley, aiming to bypass road traffic.
