Animal lovers in Miami-Dade County will need to hold off on surrendering pets for a while.
Miami-Dade County Animal Services (MDAS) is facing a critical overcrowding situation and will be closed to animal intake from June 22nd to July 10th as per the source miamidade
This temporary closure is essential to ensure the well-being of the hundreds of animals already in the shelter’s care, including vulnerable newborns, injured, and sick pets.
“The current overcapacity has stretched our resources thin,” said Director Annette Jose. The crowded conditions not only compromise the animals’ comfort but also raise the risk of disease transmission.
While intake is paused, MDAS won’t be idle. Their focus will shift to finding loving forever homes for their current residents.
