Long Beach residents and commuters should be aware of an upcoming Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License (CDL) checkpoint planned for June 28, 2024.
As per long beach Spanning from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the West Division area, the checkpoint aims to deter impaired driving and enhance public safety on local roads.
Lieutenant Jose Flores of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) emphasized the critical importance of such checkpoints in reducing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
“Impaired drivers pose significant risks to everyone on the road,” Lt. Flores stated. “By identifying and removing them from circulation, we strive to make our streets safer for all.”
While alcohol remains a major concern, the LBPD also reminds drivers that impairment can result from prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and even legal substances like marijuana.
Despite its legality, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal and can lead to serious consequences, including hefty fines, license suspension, and potential criminal charges for offenders.
Funding for this vital public safety initiative stems from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Such initiatives not only support enforcement efforts but also educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of responsible vehicle operation.
As the checkpoint date approaches, drivers are urged to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or utilize alternative transportation options if they anticipate consuming substances that may impair their ability to drive safely.
