Justice Served: Oxnard Man Gets 30 Years to Life for Killing Grandmother and Granddaughter

Jacob Anthony Caliboso, a 25-year-old resident of Oxnard, California, was sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison for the deaths of Elva Andrade and her granddaughter Nevaeh Gómez.

The tragic incident occurred on June 22, 2020, when Caliboso, driving under the combined influence of Xanax and marijuana, crashed into a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of the grandmother and her 7-year-old granddaughter.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office released details of the accident, stating that Elva Andrade died at the scene, while Nevaeh Gómez succumbed to her injuries a day later at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors revealed that Caliboso was driving above the speed limit and did not apply the brakes before the impact.

According to the source, in the days leading up to the fatal crash, Caliboso had posted numerous photos and videos of his drug use on Snapchat. On the day of the accident, he shared nearly a dozen such posts.

California Highway Patrol investigators reviewed over 1,000 Snapchat videos and photos of Caliboso using drugs and driving recklessly. This evidence was crucial in the trial, painting a clear picture of his behavior leading up to the crash.

Seven family members of the victims provided impact testimony in court, highlighting the devastating effect of the tragedy on their lives. Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Leija, who prosecuted the case, emphasized the severity of Caliboso’s actions.

“The defendant’s callous conduct took the lives of two innocent people and deserved the maximum sentence,” she stated. Leija expressed hope that the sentence would bring a sense of justice and closure to the victims’ families.

Caliboso was found guilty by the jury on April 30. His sentence of 30 years to life was the maximum allowed by law. This case serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of driving under the influence.
